Directions to Trailhead: From Clint's Well go NW on FH 3 for approximately 7 miles. Turn left (south) on FR 81. Take FR 81 S to FR 81E (Approx 5 miles). Continue south on FR 81E for another 3 miles to a fork. Take the left fork for 1.5 miles to the trailhead. This last section needs a high clearance vehicle. Trail Description: From the trailhead the trail enters the wilderness and begins switch backing immediately. At the bottom of the switchbacks, the trail traverses an area beneath the rim. In this section, the walls of the rim tower several hundred feet above you. Next, the trail descends steeply over long switchbacks to the water's edge. The trail ends at West Clear Creek. Overall, the trail descends 700 feet in 6/10's of a mile. Further exploration is possible by bushwhacking up or downstream. The hike out is very strenuous. Return the way you came. |
